The Islanders Folkband

                                                                                               The Islanders consist of Chic McLean from the Isle of Bute, Scotland and  Paul                                                                                                      Kelly from Lincoln,   England but with roots in Galway, Ireland. The Islanders                                                                                                          perform with and without backing band. The Islanders Folkband  plays a                                                                                                                breathtaking potpourri of traditional Scottish and Irish folk music. Their                                                                                                                  performance is seasoned with spontaneity and humour. The  repertoire covers                                                                                                    traditional Scottish and Irish music such as The Corries and the Dubliners, the                                                                                                      more modern folkrock style played by Runrig,  Wolfstone and U2, and exciting                                                                                                      afroceltic drum rhythms. 

                                                                                               On stage The Islanders master a variety of instruments, among others  guitar,                                                                                                      bodhran,  mandolin, mandola, el bass, mouthie, Highland bagpipes,  flute,                                                                                                              bouzouki, tin whistles, bones. The band has toured Denmark, Germany, Spain,                                                                                                      Morrocco, Austria, Switzerland, Czech, Sweden, Norway, England, Scotland, USA, Thailand, Vietnam and Australia with great success. In Denmark The Islanders have played Bogense festival, RavneRock festival, Bork Havn festival, Tønder festival, and Strib Winterfestival and a large number of venues both large and small in the whole country. The Islanders have appeared numerous times on Danish television. 

The band released their first album ”On the Rocks” at the end of 99, and their second CD ”High and Dry” was released in August 2001. The Islanders released a third album “Live at the Queens” in 2002, and a fourth album “Once Again” in August 2005. The Islanders are currently working on their fifth album which will include several of their own compositions and is expected to be released in autumn 2016.

The Islanders (øboerne) består af Chic McLean fra øen Bute, Skotland og Paul Kelly fra Lincoln, England, men med rødder i Galway, Irland. The Islanders optræder med og uden backing band. The Islanders Folkband spiller et forrygende potpourri af traditionel skotsk og irsk folkemusik. Deres optræden er krydret med glæden ved musikken, spontanitet og humor. Repertoiret spænder over den traditionelle skotske/irske musik såsom The Corries og The Dubliners til den mere moderne, populære stil som Wolfstone, Runrig og U2. 

På scenen mestrer The Islanders et hav af instrumenter, bl.a. guitar, bodhran, mandolin, mandola, el-bas, mundharpe, sækkepibe, tværfløjte, bouzouki, tin whistles, bones m.m. Bandet har med stor succes turneret i Danmark, Tyskland, Spanien, Morrocco, Tjekkiet, Østrig, Schweitz, Sverige, Norge, England, Skotland, USA, Thailand, Vietnam og Australien. De har tillige spillet på en lang række spillesteder over hele Danmark og har kunnet opleves på Bogense festival, RavneRock festival, Bork Havn festival, Tønder festival, og Strib Vinterfestival. The Islanders er i fuld gang med at planlægge en turné i Canada og Spanien til sommer. 

The Islanders har været flittige gæster i DR TV og i Go' Morgen Danmark på TV2. Ved særlige lejligheder optræder forskellige gæster med The Islanders. 

The Islanders udgav deres debutalbum ”On the Rocks” i slutningen af 99, og har efterfølgende udgivet ”High and Dry” i 2001, ”Live at the Queens” i 2002 og senest ”Once Again” i august 2005. The Islanders er i fuld gang med den næste CD, som ventes udgivet i efteråret 2016

The Islanders bestehen aus Chic McLean von der Isle of Bute, Schottland und Paul Kelly aus Lincoln, England aber mit Wurzeln in Galway, Irland. The Islanders Volksband spielt ein atemberaubendes Potpourri traditioneller schottischer und irischer Volksmusik. Ihr Auftreten ist mit Spontaneität und Humor gewürzt. Das Repertoire umfasst traditionelle schottische und irische Musik, sowie „The Corriers“ und „The Dubliners“, den moderneren Volksrockstil, von Runrig, Wolfstone und U2 gespielt und mitreissende afrokeltische Trommelrhythmen. 

 

Auf der Bühne meistern The Islanders eine Vielfalt von Instrumenten, u.a. Gitarre, Bodhran, Mandoline, Mandola, Elektrobass, Mouthie, Midi Bagpipes, Flöte, Bouzouki, Blechpfeifen und Bones.

Die Band hatte auf Tourneen in Dänemark, Deutschland, Schweden, Norwegen, England, Schottland, Thailand und Australien großen Erfolg. The Islanders haben auf vielen ausländischen Festivals gespielt, wie dem Rognan Festival und dem Sjyrock Festival, Norwegen; dem Hamburg World Music Festival, Deutschland; dem Bute Arts Festival and Loch Lomond Festival, Schottland. In Dänemark haben The Islanders auf folgenden Festivals gespielt: Bogense Festival, RavneRock Festival, Bork Havn Festival, Tønder Festival und Strib Winterfestival. Dazu kommen eine grosse Anzahl Auftritte an grösseren und kleineren Orten über das ganze Land verteilt.

The Islanders sind auch oft im dänischen Fernsehen aufgetreten.

 

Die Band gab Ende 1999 ihr erstes Album „On the Rocks“ heraus, und ihre zweite CD „High and Dry“ wurde August 2001 herausgegeben. The Islanders gaben 2002 ein drittes Album „Live at the Queens“ heraus und im August 2005  ein viertes Album „Once Again“. The Islanders arbeiten zur Zeit an ihrem fünften Album, das mehrere von ihren eigenen Kompositionen einbeziehen wird und voraussichtlich im November 2016 erscheinen wird.
